Overview

This full-day bus trip starts in downtown Bucharest and crosses the Danube River to northern Bulgaria. The tour includes three main stops: Ruse, Arbanasi, and Veliko Tarnovo. The first Bulgarian stop is Ruse, where you visit the city center pedestrian area and the Holy Trinity Cathedral Church. After about 30 minutes in Ruse, the tour continues to the village of Arbanasi, known for its traditional houses and local atmosphere, situated on a high plateau between Veliko Tarnovo and Gorna Oryahovitsa. The main part of the day is spent in Veliko Tarnovo. Here, you explore the Tsarevets Fortress, a medieval stronghold once home to Bulgarian royalty. You have around two hours to walk around the fortress and enjoy the panoramic hilltop views. After visiting Veliko Tarnovo, the tour returns to Bucharest. A professional tour escort provides commentary and assistance throughout the approximately 12-hour trip. The guide helps keep the schedule on track and shares information about Bulgaria between stops. Weather, border crossing times, and traffic may affect the timing of the tour.
