Overview

This full-day group or private tour from Baku lasts about seven to eight hours, starting at 9:00 AM from the Baku City Tours office. The first stop is Bibi-Heybat Mosque near the site of the world's first industrial oil well, where visitors spend 20 minutes. The tour then travels approximately 40 miles southwest of Baku to Gobustan National Park, established in 1966 to protect ancient petroglyphs, mud volcanoes, and gas-stones. Guests spend one hour exploring the rock carvings and the surrounding area. After Gobustan, there is a one-hour lunch break at a buffet restaurant. Following lunch, the tour continues to the Absheron Peninsula to visit the Ateshgah Fire Temple in Surakhani, a castle-like religious site linked to fire worship, with a 30-minute stop. The final stop is Yanar Dag (Burning Mountain), a natural gas fire that has been burning for centuries, where visitors spend about 30 minutes. Transport is provided by an air-conditioned minivan throughout the tour. Guests have the option to switch to a Soviet SUV Lada to visit the mud volcanoes for 30 minutes; this stop may be excluded depending on weather conditions. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included if selected. Entrance fees to Gobustan National Park, mud volcanoes, Ateshgah Fire Temple, and Burning Mountain are included if the ticket option is chosen. A professional guide accompanies the tour. Lunch is not included in the price.
