Overview

This full-day tour from Guadalajara lasts between eight and ten hours and includes four main stops around the Tequila Volcano area. The first stop is the Guachimontones archaeological zone, where visitors spend two hours exploring the only circular pyramids in Mexico, built about 2,000 years ago. The guide explains the underground graves, hydroponic farming methods, and the ancient ball game leagues connected to the site. Next, the tour visits the main plaza of Tequila town for one and a half hours. Visitors walk through streets lined with colorful colonial buildings, cobblestone paths, and local markets. There is time to browse artisan shops and see the town’s traditional architecture. Lunch is not included but can be purchased independently. The third stop is a visit to the agave fields, where blue agave plants cover the landscape. Visitors spend approximately 30 minutes learning about the farming traditions and the importance of agave to the region. The final stop is a tequila distillery, where visitors spend one hour observing the process of cooking, fermenting, and distilling blue agave into tequila. This includes a tasting session of several tequila varieties. Throughout the day, the guide also explains the role of fire in the agave harvesting and tequila production process. The tour includes snacks, bottled water, and carbonated drinks. A certified federal guide provides commentary throughout the day.
