Overview

This full-day bus tour from Medellín focuses on the region’s coffee production and the landmark Piedra del Peñol. The day begins with a visit to a local market where fruit tasting is offered. Then, the group travels to a coffee farm near Guatapé. Here, local farmers demonstrate every stage of coffee production, from sowing the seeds to processing the beans by picking, depulping, washing, drying, and grinding. Guests participate in these tasks before tasting freshly brewed coffee. Next, the tour heads to Piedra del Peñol, a large granite rock rising above the landscape. Visitors climb over 700 steps to reach the summit, where they can view the dam and surrounding area from a 360-degree vantage point. After descending, the group moves into Guatapé town to have lunch (not included) featuring Colombian dishes. After lunch, there is time for a guided walk around Guatapé to learn about its history and the tradition of "zócalos," the colorful paintings on house facades. The guide also points out local shops selling handicrafts and a chocolate shop. The tour ends with transportation back to Medellín or to the airport if requested. The trip lasts about 10 to 11 hours and includes hotel pickup and drop-off, air-conditioned transport, fruit tasting, coffee farm entrance, and health insurance. Lunch and entrance fees beyond the coffee farm are not included.
