This self-guided bike tour begins early in the morning with a shuttle to the summit of Haleakala National Park on Maui, located at about 6,500 feet elevation. Participants watch the sunrise from the summit before starting the bike ride. Riders use custom Kona mountain bikes to descend approximately 20 miles down the mountain, including two passes on the switchback roads. The ride ends in Haiku. After the bike portion, a shuttle transfers participants to Makawao. The entire tour lasts about seven hours. Included are entrance fees to Haleakala National Park, a Da Kine backpack, Helly Hansen rain gear consisting of a windbreaker top and bottom, Bell helmets, gloves, and air-conditioned vehicle transport. Riders must be at least 15 years old, at least 4 feet 10 inches tall, physically able to complete the ride, and have recent biking experience. Closed-toe shoes are required. Participants should bring their own water, snacks, and money for an optional no-host breakfast stop during the ride. Gratuities are not included.
