Overview

This one-hour walking tour in Edinburgh begins on the Royal Mile, where the guide meets the group and gives a brief introduction. The group then walks along the Royal Mile for about fifteen minutes, stopping occasionally to share historical information about the city. After reaching the entrance, the tour continues inside the haunted Edinburgh Vaults for around forty minutes. Inside the vaults, the guide presents a torture exhibition, explaining how various instruments were used in Edinburgh’s darker history. The guide also describes the vaults’ past as slum dwellings inhabited by poor residents, criminals, and prostitutes, and shares reports of paranormal activity said to have occurred in these underground chambers. Access to the vaults involves descending a narrow two-foot stair, followed by a spiral staircase and additional mezzanine staircases between levels. Admission to the vaults is included in the ticket. The tour is not recommended for children under twelve years old, and those under sixteen must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Filming or live streaming during the tour is prohibited. The walking pace and terrain may not be suitable for people with walking difficulties.
