Overview

This full-day tour lasts about six to seven hours and covers several key sites on the Big Island of Hawaii. The tour begins with a two-hour visit to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Visitors see Volcano House, the Visitor Center, the Kilauea overlook at Halemaumau Crater, steam vents, sulfur dioxide banks, Kilauea Iki Crater, Laumanu Crater, and the Nahuku lava tube. A professional Native Hawaiian guide provides commentary throughout the visit. After leaving the park, the tour stops at the Hilo Farmers Market for one hour. This allows time for lunch at nearby local restaurants and browsing fresh produce and local shops. Next, the tour includes a twenty-minute visit to Rainbow Falls on the Wailuku River. This waterfall is known for rainbows that appear in the mist when the sun shines. Nearby is a large quarter-acre Banyan Tree that visitors often climb and explore. Following this is a fifteen-minute stop at a 24-acre botanical garden near Hilo Bay. Visitors can walk over bridges spanning saltwater tide pools filled with tropical fish and may see native Hawaiian Nene geese. The tour then visits Big Island Candies for fifteen minutes. Guests can sample macadamia nut cookies dipped in various chocolates and Kona or Kau coffee while watching candy production through large windows. The final stop is Richardson Ocean Park, a black sand beach where visitors spend about thirty minutes. This beach is known for Hawaiian green sea turtles in the tide pools and offers opportunities for swimming, snorkeling, and surfing. The tour uses luxury vans with reclining seats and includes bottled water, umbrellas, National Park fees, and pickup and drop-off at the Port of Hilo, hotels, or Hilo Airport.
