Overview

This 12-hour small-group tour on the Big Island of Hawaii begins with a visit to Bay View Farm, a Kona Coffee Farm. Guests spend about one hour learning how Kona Coffee is harvested and milled while sampling Kona Coffee and Tea. A picnic lunch is served with views over Kealakekua Bay. The tour then stops at Punalu'u Bake Shop for approximately 30 minutes to taste Hawaiian sweet bread and malasadas. Next, the group visits Punalu'u Black Sand Beach for about 40 minutes, where visitors can relax and may see green sea turtles from the shore. The tour continues to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park for around three hours. During this time, the guide leads stops to observe volcanic eruptions, past lava flows, steam vents, Kilauea Crater Lookout, a section of Chain of Craters Road, and the crater rim trail, providing educational commentary. Included is a 30-minute walk at Nahuku - Thurston Lava Tube, a 600-foot-long lava cave formed by ancient underground magma flow. In the evening, the tour travels along Saddle Road to a remote location near Mauna Kea for twilight stargazing. Depending on weather conditions, guests can observe stars, planets, galaxies, and the moon while the guide shares stories and legends about the night sky. Lunch and dinner are included, along with bottled water and Hawaiian juice. Transportation is provided in a luxury Mercedes Sprinter van with hotel pickup and drop-off in the Kona and Kohala Coast areas. Rain and warm jackets are supplied. The tour is led by a professional guide and involves some walking on uneven ground. Children under five years old are not permitted, and vegetarian or gluten-free meals are available upon request.
