Overview

This eight-hour day trip departs from a central meeting point near York Minster by a comfortable 16-seat mini-coach with air conditioning and Wi-Fi. A driver and guide provide live commentary throughout the journey. The tour visits Herriot Country and the Yorkshire Dales National Park, including several key locations. The first stop is Masham, a traditional market town in Lower Wensleydale with a market charter dating back to 1251. Visitors have 45 minutes to see the remains of a 1,300-year-old Anglo-Saxon cross shaft at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, explore local shops, or relax in a café. Next, the coach crosses Masham Moor, passing Gouthwaite Reservoir and drystone walls, before arriving at Grassington. Grassington is known as the setting for the fictional town of Darrowby in the television series All Creatures Great and Small. There is 90 minutes to explore shops, cafés, filming locations, or visit the Devonshire Arms pub. After Grassington, the group drives a short distance to Linton Falls. Visitors may choose to take a brief walk from the Visitor Centre car park down an old stone path to the falls and meet the guide on the bridge over the River Wharfe. The main afternoon stop is Bolton Abbey, where admission is free. Guests can explore the ruins and church of the 12th-century Augustinian Priory by the riverside or try crossing the stepping stones. On the return trip, the coach passes through Harrogate, a historic spa town, with the guide providing information about its background. The tour includes regular photo, refreshment, and toilet stops. Entrance fees to attractions, food, drinks, and gratuities are not included. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and the minimum age is five years. Collapsible wheelchairs can be accommodated if accompanied by someone able to assist with boarding and disembarking. The tour operates in all weather conditions, and the route may change due to adverse weather or road conditions. Service animals are allowed by prior arrangement only.
