by Mike's Coastal Expeditions
This Hobie Kayak EcoTour in Bonita Springs lasts about two and a half hours and includes a guided paddle through the waters of Estero Bay near Big Hickory Island. Participants use premium Hobie kayaks, including Passports and Compass Duos, both equipped with pedal drives and high-quality paddles. The tour features both single and tandem kayaks, each with adjustable, comfortable backrests that keep paddlers dry. The route passes through winding inlets and mangrove tunnels typical of the Bonita Springs area. There is a stop at a private beach where guests can collect shells. Included with the tour are dry bags for personal items, mesh bags for shelling finds, life jackets designed specifically for kayaking, complimentary cold water, free parking, and photos taken by the guide.
Big Hickory Pass Bridge
The tour begins at Big Hickory Pass bridge where the guide supplies dry bags, shelling bags, and lifejackets. After a short introduction to the Hobie kayaks, which feature Mirage pedal drives and comfortable seating, the group departs to explore either Estero Bay estuary or the Gulf, based on tidal conditions. A beach with abundant shells is visited at either the start or finish of the trip. Participants may observe dolphins, manatees, and coastal birds while the guide provides details about the local environment. The excursion concludes back at the bridge, including family and wildlife photographs.
