Overview

This four-hour walking journey in Mexico City starts in the Downtown Historic Center. Participants take the subway two stops to La Merced Market, a busy and colorful market serving thousands of shoppers daily. At La Merced, the group visits the banquetón area, the market’s prepared food section, where they taste tacos, aguas frescas, and tamales from selected food stalls. The tour continues through the large fruits and vegetables building, where pre-Hispanic ingredients such as grasshoppers and agave worms are introduced and sampled. After a short rest, the group returns by subway to the Historic Center. The tour concludes in a recently revitalized area of the city with a drink and a snack. Included are one coffee, beer, or non-alcoholic beverage, one traditional Mexican candy, one agua fresca, and enough food to cover a large breakfast and lunch combined.
