Overview

This full-day bus tour from Tbilisi lasts about 10 hours and includes stops at several notable sites along the Georgian Military Highway. The trip begins with a visit to the Zhinvali Water Reservoir, a large lake created by a Soviet-era dam in the 1980s, known for its scenic views and photo opportunities. Next, the group explores the Ananuri fortress complex on the Aragvi River. This castle, dating from the 16th to 18th centuries, was the seat of the Aragvi dukes and saw many battles. Visitors can walk around for about 40 minutes, enjoying views of both the fortress and the reservoir. Afterward, the tour passes the meeting point of the White Aragvi and Black Aragvi rivers, where their distinct colors remain separated. The group then stops at the Kvemo Mleta restaurant for a 90-minute break. Following lunch, the tour continues to Gudauri ski resort at 2200 meters altitude, where there is a 20-minute honey and Georgian alcohol (chacha) tasting session. Nearby is the Jvari Pass Travertine Natural Monument, a 25-minute stop to see the calcareous formations formed by mineral springs at over 2100 meters elevation. The final destination is Stepantsminda, a small town near the northern border of Georgia. From here, participants can visit the Gergeti Trinity Church, located 2170 meters above sea level under Mount Kazbegi. The church, built in the 14th century, is known for its remote mountainous setting and views of Mount Kazbegi, which rises to 5047 meters. The tour includes a one-hour visit to the church area. A professional guide leads the group throughout, and the mini-bus provides onboard WiFi and air conditioning. Entrance fees are included. Note that a separate jeep ride to Gergeti Trinity Church costs 20 Georgian Lari and lunch is not included.
