Overview

This four-hour ecotour begins in Ketchikan with round-trip transportation from both the Downtown Cruise docks and Ward Cove docks. Participants meet at the marina where electric bicycles are provided. These e-bikes have pedal assist with multiple levels to control effort and feature step-through frames for easy mounting. The bikes are powered by hydroelectricity. The group rides along the "road to nowhere," a quiet route that ends at the edge of Tongass National Forest. Upon arrival, a local guide leads a hike on a well-maintained loop trail beside an active salmon spawning stream. The hike includes views of a waterfall and a nearby beach where it is possible to see intertidal wildlife, black bears, and marine mammals such as porpoises, seals, sea lions, and occasionally humpback whales or orcas. The rainforest trail changes with the seasons and highlights the dense flora and fauna of the Tongass National Forest, including deer and salmon. After the hike, participants return on the e-bikes to the marina. At the marina, smoked salmon snacks, local vegan options, and beverages are served. The tour operates in small groups and provides rain gear if needed. This tour does not cancel for rain and does not accommodate travelers with infants.
