by Pirates Cove Watersports
This half-day scuba diving trip in Key Largo visits two different reef sites within the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and Pennekamp State Park. The dive locations vary depending on sea conditions and may include Molasses Reef, Elbow Reef, French Reef, or Dry Rocks near the Christ of the Abyss statue. These reefs are part of the third largest living coral reef system in the world and the only one in the United States. Divers may see turtles, spotted eagle rays, moray eels, and various fish species during the dives. The trip lasts about three and a half hours and includes bottled water. Use of scuba gear and towels are not included. Participants must be certified scuba divers with recent dive experience. Those who have not dived within the past year may need to hire a guide at an additional cost, and divers inactive for over two years must complete a refresher course. Single divers may also be required to hire a guide.
Florida Keys Reef Dive
Certified divers board a 45-foot Corinthian catamaran built for diving to visit two separate sites on the third largest barrier reef worldwide, which is the only barrier reef in the United States, located within John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park and the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Participants must hold SCUBA certification to join; those without certification should inquire about diving options. If a diver's last dive was one year or more ago, they must contact the operator as a guide or refresher course might be required. Single divers may be paired with a buddy, but if none is available, hiring a guide at an extra charge may be necessary. The trip includes one two-tank dive at two different locations lasting about 3.5 to 4 hours. Tanks and weights are provided, while SCUBA equipment and an in-water guide/divemaster can be rented for an additional fee upon request.
