- Genkoji Temple, a Jodo Shinshu Honganji-ha temple, has a history of 426 years. The main hall was destroyed in the Seinan War in the 10th year of Meiji (1877), and the ceiling dragon in the main hall was created with the aim of restoring the cloud dragon painting that was said to have been on the ceiling of the main hall. Composed of two white dragons, Namimaru, and Higo Rokuka, it measures 11m wide, 8m long, and weighs a total of 800kg, making it the largest in Japan. Its construction, which combines carved coloring and painting, is unparalleled. It's best to lie down to appreciate the ceiling dragon painted overhead! The current 18th chief priest has launched the "Connecting with Dragons Project" and is planning various dragon-themed installations within the temple. This plan allows you to enjoy viewing the dragon handrail in the center of the main hall, left by the 17th chief priest, and the dragon zashiki (low table) carved from Yakusugi cedar, as well as experience ringing the bell with its solemn sound. You will receive a commemorative certificate of your visit when you leave.
