Overview

The tour starts early in the morning before sunrise in one of Kolkata’s oldest neighborhoods, during the city’s magic hour when the streets are quiet and the light is soft. Participants board the city’s first bus of the day and travel through the oldest parts of Kolkata. Over about four hours, the group visits several key locations on foot and by local transport, including buses and other traditional vehicles. The route includes Old Calcutta, the Howrah Bridge, the Flower Market, and Kumartuli, the village known for its idol-making workshops. The tour begins with chai served in earthen cups and ends with a traditional Bengali breakfast featuring local sweets at a century-old spot. Along the way, there are opportunities to taste local foods and enjoy tea and coffee. Bottled water and snacks are provided throughout the tour. DSLR photography is included, with soft copies of the photos shared after the tour. The focus is on experiencing daily life in Kolkata rather than visiting historical landmarks. The tour is led by Soham, founder of Calcutta Capsule walking tours.
