Fern Tree Playground

An optional stop on the kunanyi/Mt Wellington tour, Fern Tree Park offers a grassy sheltered area with toilets, picnic tables, wood-fired barbeques, and playground equipment for children. From here, visitors can walk shaded trails along fern gullies and streams. The Pipeline Track is a 40-minute return walk that follows Hobart’s water pipeline route and is suitable for mountain biking. The nearby Fern Tree Tavern serves lunch, coffee, cake, and cold drinks and is open Tuesday to Sunday.

The Springs

An optional hop-off on the kunanyi/Mt Wellington tour, The Springs features a level picnic area with toilets, picnic tables, and gas-fired barbeques. It serves as the starting point for various walking and mountain bike trails on the eastern foothills of kunanyi/Mt Wellington. The Lenah Valley Track leads to Sphinx Rock in about 45 minutes return; this easy walk passes through eucalyptus forest and ends at a sandstone platform with a 10 metre cliff drop, offering views of the Organ Pipes and Hobart below. The Lost Freight Cafe, open 7 days, provides hot drinks, light meals, and snacks.

Organ Pipes Circuit Trail

The Organ Pipes Walk is a 3-hour return walk considered one of Tasmania’s Great Short Walks. It follows the mountain’s contour around the base of the 120-metre-high dolerite columns of the Organ Pipes to The Chalet. Rock climbers can sometimes be seen on the columns. The walk is challenging and well marked. One can hike uphill from The Springs to The Chalet or downhill the other way, which takes about 1.5 hours.

Mount Wellington

The tour reaches kunanyi/Mt Wellington’s summit at 1270 metres above Hobart. Visitors have 30 minutes to view the city, the east coast, and the World Heritage Area of Southern Tasmania to the west. The summit has a sheltered observation area with interpretive signs, multiple lookouts, and accessible toilets. The Zig Zag Track is a short, easy 20-minute return walk across the plateau to a lookout with alpine views. For a more difficult route, walkers can descend the steep Zig Zag and Pinnacle Tracks to The Springs, a 1.5-hour walk with views of the Organ Pipes and Hobart. Brooke Street Pier

On the Hobart Hop-On Hop-Off City Loop, Brooke Street Pier is an optional stop. The pier is a floating structure that rises and falls with the tide. It serves as the departure point for the MONA ferry and Peppermint Bay cruise. Visitors can find Tasmanian artisan shops, cafés, and restaurants with waterfront views here.

Salamanca Market

Salamanca Place is the stop for the Salamanca Market, Australia’s largest outdoor market, operating every Saturday regardless of weather. The area features 1840s Georgian sandstone warehouses converted into cafés, restaurants, bars, galleries, and boutiques, offering crafts and souvenirs.

Wrest Point Casino

Wrest Point stop offers a waterfront location with various restaurants, bars, live music, and casino entertainment. From here, a scenic 30-minute walk along the harbor leads to Long Beach in Sandy Bay.

Cascade Brewery

At Cascade Brewery, visitors can sample beverages by the glass or tasting paddle and join guided tours of Australia’s oldest brewery. Nearby is Cascade Gardens, a pleasant area to stroll through to reach the Cascades Female Factory. There is also a downhill walking track along Hobart Rivulet back into the city.

Cascades Female Factory Historic Site

This stop offers insight into the lives of convict women and their children at the Cascades Female Factory. Guided tours explore the site’s history, and exhibitions are displayed in the Matron’s Quarters. Visitors can then walk through Cascade Gardens to Cascade Brewhouse or follow the Hobart Rivulet Walking Track downhill to the city.

Village Cinemas

Village Cinemas provides screenings of Hollywood and art-house films, including selected Gold Class showings. The venue also has laser tag and arcade games. It is a short walk from Centrepoint Shopping Centre and nearby retail stores in the southern CBD area.

TASMANIAN MUSEUM AND ART GALLERY

At this stop, visitors can explore Tasmania’s history and art collections. The museum offers public talks, tours, school holiday programs, and family activities when available.

Maritime Museum of Tasmania

The Maritime Museum presents Tasmania’s maritime history. It offers public talks, tours, school programs, and family activities depending on the schedule.

Hobart Penitentiary

This historic convict precinct dates from the 1830s and was built to house convicts arriving in the colony. Visitors can book to see Pandemonium – The Convict Film Experience or join after-hours ghost tours, both requiring prior booking.

The Hobart Aquatic Centre

This stop includes access to an Olympic-size swimming pool, leisure pools, water slide, spa, sauna, steam room, gym, and fitness classes at the Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre. Nearby are the University Rose Gardens with 40 rose varieties and the open spaces of Queens Domain, which includes the Hobart Cenotaph and Soldiers Memorial Avenue.

Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens

The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens cover 14 hectares of cool climate plant collections, including the Japanese Garden and a historic Conservatory. Visitors can see the Lily Pond, Community Food Garden, and the Subantarctic Plant House. Succulent Restaurant offers meals with views, and the Botanical Shop sells related items.
