Overview

This four-hour afternoon bike tour in Kyoto explores the Arashiyama area by bicycle and on foot. The tour begins with cycling along roads that were once part of the Tenryuji Zen Temple grounds, a designated World Heritage site. Next, participants walk for about 20 minutes up Iwatayama Mountain to reach Monkey Park Iwatayama, where they can observe wild monkeys and enjoy a panoramic view of Kyoto city. After returning to the bikes, the group rides to Bamboo Forest Street for a 25-minute visit to see the tall bamboo stalks and hear the distinctive sounds of the forest. The tour continues with a 25-minute stroll through Sogenchi Teien, the Japanese garden of Tenryu-ji Temple, also within the World Heritage temple grounds. Additional stops include visits to local shrines and temples in the area that are less frequented by tourists, referred to as hidden spots. The final stop is Togetsukyo Bridge, where participants spend about 10 minutes admiring the bridge and surrounding mountain scenery. The tour includes a standard Cannondale city bicycle, helmet, bottled water, admission fees, and a bilingual English-speaking guide. E-bikes and youth bikes are available upon request for an additional fee. There is no hotel pickup or drop-off service. Children must be at least 10 years old to join; families with younger children should select the family bike tour option.
