Overview

This guided walking tour takes place in Kyoto’s Gion district, known as the city’s geisha area. The tour lasts about three hours and begins as night falls, when lanterns light the streets. The group starts by exploring Hanamikoji Street, a well-preserved historic street lined with traditional wooden buildings. Next, the tour continues through quiet backstreets of Gion, visiting offbeat temples and shrines, including Yasaka Shrine, also called Gion Shrine. The guide provides information about local customs, history, and architecture throughout the walk. There is a chance to see a geiko or maiko (apprentice geiko) moving between appointments, although sightings are not guaranteed. The tour is limited to a maximum of nine people and is led by an English-speaking guide. Snacks are included only in premium group and private tours. Hotel pickup and drop-off, meals, drinks, and personal expenses are not included.
