Overview

This 90-minute samurai school in Kyoto begins with an introduction to the etiquette of samurai classes from feudal Japan. Participants then practice basic Kenbu, a traditional Japanese dance that uses choreographed movements with a sword and folding fan. The lesson is led by an English-speaking local instructor who guides participants through the movements. After the Kenbu lesson, there is a photo session where participants wear samurai costumes. Each participant receives a certificate of achievement and a traditional Japanese tenugui towel to take home. The session takes place on the first basement floor of the GOZAN building. Hotel pickup, food, drinks, and gratuities are not included. Participants should arrive a few minutes early and wear clothing suitable for exercise and costume changes. Children between the ages of 5 and 11 are recommended to have some experience in classes or martial arts schools.
