Overview

This walking tour lasts about 4 to 4.5 hours and covers several key sites in Kyoto’s Arashiyama district. The tour starts with a meeting at Tully's Coffee before heading to Tenryu-ji Temple. Visitors spend around 30 minutes exploring this Zen temple and its gardens, noted for seasonal reflections in the central pond. Next is a 30-minute walk through the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, where tall bamboo stalks line the path. The group then visits Nonomiya Shrine for 15 minutes, a small Shinto shrine surrounded by mossy woods and linked to ancient purification rites. Afterward, the tour crosses Togetsukyo Bridge, spending about 10 minutes admiring views of the river and mountains. The final stop is Monkey Park Iwatayama, reached by a short hike; visitors have about an hour to see wild Japanese macaques and look over Kyoto from the mountaintop. The entry fees for Tenryu-ji Temple and Monkey Park are included, as is one Uji matcha tea served during the tour. An English-speaking guide leads the entire walk. Tips are not included.
