by Chameleon Stargazing
The Lake Tekapo Chameleon Stargazing Shared Tour lasts ninety minutes and takes place near Lake Tekapo in New Zealand. Participants walk to a clear viewing area where they use a powerful 9-25 inch telescope to observe stars and other celestial objects. The tour features the Chameleon eVscope 2, a combined telescope and astrocamera device that captures enhanced images of the night sky. During the tour, guests receive hot chocolate, tea, coffee, blankets, and roasted marshmallows to stay comfortable. A guide provides information and stories about stars and constellations throughout the session. Photos taken with the telescope are given to participants as souvenirs. The tour includes all fees, taxes, snacks, and telescope use, but does not provide shuttle service to or from accommodations. Weather updates are provided by email before the tour.
Lake Tekapo Night Sky
Observe the dark night sky over Lake Tekapo and learn about stars and constellations. Use a powerful telescope to view deep sky objects. A photo will be taken of the guest under the stars. After the viewing, guests can toast marshmallows around a fire bowl and relax in seats with blankets. For tours starting after midnight, guests must confirm the correct date, as a 12:30am 1st Jan tour occurs on the night of 31st Dec. The night sky varies nightly due to weather, moon phase, aurora activity, and sky rotation; example photos may not match the actual view.
