by A Chef's Tour
This four-hour food tour takes place in Chiang Mai, Thailand, focusing on the cuisine of the Lanna Kingdom region. The tour is led by professional foodie guides and conducted aboard a private songtheaw truck. It includes more than 15 tastings of Northern Thai dishes, snacks, and drinks while traveling through the city's streets and fresh markets. Bottled water and local soft drinks are provided during the tour. The experience begins with an introduction to the local cuisine and an explanation of dietary suitability: the tour is not suitable for vegetarians, pescatarians, or those avoiding pork. It cannot accommodate shellfish, peanut, or severe allergies due to street food limitations, but lactose intolerance and no-beef diets are suitable. Participants visit several street food stalls and markets, sampling regional specialties such as khao soi curry with crispy noodles, chili jam, and pickled greens; barbecued spatchcocked chicken served with som tum papaya salad and sticky rice; and lemongrass-stuffed sai oua sausages. The final stop is the Nimmanhaemin district, a popular area near central hotels, where guests can enjoy local hospitality before the tour ends. Groups are limited to eight guests to maintain an exclusive setting.
