Overview

This half-day tour of Lima lasts about three and a half hours and highlights the city's vibrant heritage through visits to important landmarks in both the historic center and modern districts. The tour begins at Parque del Amor in Miraflores, where visitors spend about twenty minutes enjoying views of the Pacific Ocean and seeing the iconic sculpture called the Infinite Kiss. Next, the group passes by Huaca Pucllana, an ancient ceremonial center of the Lima culture, viewed from the outside. The tour then continues to Lima’s Main Square, home to the Government Palace and Town Hall. Visitors enter Lima Cathedral for approximately thirty minutes to see its religious artworks and the tomb of Francisco Pizarro. The itinerary proceeds to the Basilica and Convent of Santo Domingo, where visitors spend about thirty minutes exploring the historic building that once housed San Marcos University. Inside, there are old chairs and a library with 25,000 Dominican books. The convent is also the resting place of San Martin de Porres and San Rosa de Lima, whose lives are explained during the visit. The tour is led by a licensed English-speaking guide and includes hotel pickup and drop-off in Miraflores, San Isidro, and Barranco. Admission tickets to the Cathedral and Santo Domingo Convent are included. The vehicle is air-conditioned for comfort. If the Cathedral is closed, the tour visits the Barranco district instead. On Sunday mornings and all day Monday, when the Cathedral is closed, the tour includes a visit to San Francisco Church located behind the Cathedral. A dress code applies for places of worship and some museums, requiring no shorts or sleeveless tops.
