Overview

This small-group day trip from Avignon takes about 8 and a half hours and explores four villages in the Luberon valley. After a 45-minute drive, stop at Fontaine de Vaucluse to see the river spring where water emerges from a deep chasm. You’ll have an hour to walk along shaded pedestrian paths, visit an ancient watermill still producing paper, and see an 11th-century Romanesque church. After regrouping, travel to Gordes with a photo stop at a viewpoint overlooking vineyards and olive groves. In Gordes, you get an hour to walk the cobbled streets around the castle, enjoy views over the valley, and find shops and cafés. Next, arrive in Roussillon around lunchtime and spend two hours there. This is the longest stop, allowing time to eat at a café or snack bar and explore streets painted in various ochre shades. If you prefer, you can walk the Ochre Trail, a marked path through old ochre cliffs (entrance fee not included). After lunch, the tour continues to Ménerbes, another hilltop village listed among France’s most beautiful. Spend an hour strolling its quiet streets, famous for inspiring the book “One Year in Provence.” After this, return to Avignon, expecting to arrive between 5 and 5:30 pm. The tour is limited to 8 participants for a more personal experience and includes live commentary onboard, air-conditioned transport, and parking fees. Entrance fees and meals are not included.
