Overview

This full-day hiking tour begins with a pickup in downtown Anchorage, followed by a two-hour drive along the Glenn Highway to Matanuska Glacier. The route passes through mountainous terrain and follows the braided Matanuska River. There is a one-hour stop in Palmer where participants can buy lunch at local shops. Upon arrival at the glacier, guides provide crampons and glacier walking equipment to ensure safety. An all-terrain vehicle carries the group to the glacier’s base, where the hike covers various ice formations over about three hours. The guides share information about the glacier’s size and natural features throughout the walk. After the hike, the group returns to Anchorage with a drop-off downtown. Bottled water and snacks are included, but lunch and gratuities are not. The total duration is around 8 and a half hours.
