Overview

This helicopter tour in the Anchorage area lasts about 2 hours and includes three landings near and on the Knik Glacier. The flight begins by flying up the Knik River Valley toward the glacier. The first landing is on an alpine ridge, where passengers spend 30 minutes observing the Knik Glacier, which is 5 miles wide and 29 miles long, from above. The second landing is at a 100-foot ice wall, where visitors have 30 minutes to explore and may see ice calving. The final landing is on the glacier itself, in the middle of the Knik Glacier, where passengers spend about 30 minutes walking on ancient ice. Features to see include blue melt pools during summer, crevasses, and ice formations shaped by natural elements. During the flight, the pilot points out local wildlife such as moose, mountain goats, Dall sheep, bears, and occasionally wolves. From October to April, landing on the glacier is not possible due to frozen melt pools; instead, the helicopter lands next to the glacier near large ice formations. The tour includes a guided glacier hike and covers all taxes and fees. A comfort surcharge applies for passengers over 250 pounds.
