This 7-hour Mauna Kea Arnott's Adventures tour begins with a meeting point in Hilo or directly at the Onizuka Astronomy Complex, located at 9,000 feet elevation. Guests spend about 30 minutes at the Onizuka Astronomy Complex visiting exhibits and acclimating to the altitude before continuing the drive to the summit of Mauna Kea. The vehicle ascends to 13,796 feet, stopping above the clouds to watch the sunset when weather conditions allow. Along the way, visitors see the international observatories situated on this culturally significant mountain. After sunset, the group returns to the Onizuka Astronomy Complex for approximately 15 minutes of stargazing guided by a local expert using a laser pointer. Telescopes are not provided on this tour. The tour includes all fees and taxes as well as a jacket for warmth. Dinner and telescope use are not included. The tour requires a minimum of two guests to operate and may arrange pickups in Kona for groups of four or more upon request. Health and age restrictions apply, including a minimum age of 13 years.
