This 5-hour tour in Merida, Mexico, begins with a guided walk through a vibrant local market. Participants taste seasonal fruits, traditional sweets, and regional specialties while selecting fresh ingredients for the cooking class. After the market visit, the group travels by bus to the home of the hosts. There, a cooking class focuses on traditional Yucatecan dishes from the Yucatan region. Participants learn recipes and hear stories related to the food as they prepare the meal together. Once the cooking is complete, the group sits down to eat the dishes they have made, accompanied by local beverages. The return trip to downtown Merida is by Uber. A bilingual guide fluent in Spanish and English is present throughout the tour. The price includes transportation to the hostess's home by bus, Uber back to the city, all ingredients for the cooking lesson, lunch and beverages at the hostess's home, bottled water, and one traditional candy per person. Children under five years old participate free of charge. Vegetarian and vegan options are available upon request. Participants should inform the organizers of any dietary restrictions or allergies at the time of booking. It is recommended to wear a hat or cap and sunscreen due to the climate.

Your culinary adventure begins in the heart of downtown Mérida, where you'll meet your friendly local guide, after a warm welcome and brief introduction, you will walk around the Plaza Grande and you will arrive to the vibrant world of Mercado Lucas de Gálvez, where the colors, aromas, and energy of daily life come alive. Together, you’ll shop for fresh ingredients that you'll later use in the cooking class, including achiote, chaya, and habanero peppers. Along the way, you’ll meet local vendors and gain insight into the culinary traditions. After exploring the market, you’ll board an air-conditioned bus for a short ride through the city. Upon arrival, you'll be welcomed by our hostess into a local home, where the kitchen is awaiting. It’s here, that you’ll begin the hands-on cooking class guided step by step by your host, using the ingredients you picked. Once the cooking is done, it’s time to enjoy the delicious dishes you prepared, shared in good company. Take your time and savor every bite. After the meal, your guide will help arrange a Uber ride back to the Mérida’s downtown area, so you can return safely and easily, with a full stomach and a happy heart.
