Overview

This four-hour morning bus tour in Meteora begins with a hotel pickup in Kalabaka or Kastraki aboard a VIP minibus. The tour includes visits to all six monasteries of Meteora, with interior access to three of them. Along the way, guests see lesser-known sites such as the ancient Chapel of Doupiani and St. George “Mandilas” cave. The guide explains why hermits settled in the caves a thousand years ago and how monks managed construction here. The route includes stops at the village of Kastraki, known for the ruins of a Byzantine castle, and each of the six monasteries: Saint Nicholas of Anapafsas (20 minutes), Roussanou (60 minutes), Great Meteoron (60 minutes), Varlaam (60 minutes), Holy Trinity (20 minutes), and Saint Stephen’s (20 minutes). The Holy Trinity Monastery requires descending a path and climbing 145 rock steps to reach it. Saint Stephen’s is the most accessible monastery with no steps. The tour provides free Wi-Fi on the bus, an English-speaking local guide, and free audio guides in seven languages. Entrance fees to the monasteries and guided tours inside them are not included. Visitors must follow a strict dress code for monastery visits and pay entrance fees in cash. Audio guides require a smartphone and earphones.
