Overview

Meet the local guide near your Queenstown accommodation and board a premium Mercedes van for a small-group trip to Milford Sound with up to 15 people. The journey begins with a drive through Southland’s farming country and the town of Te Anau, where there is a brief stop by Lake Te Anau for refreshments. Lake Te Anau is the second-largest lake in New Zealand by surface area and the largest in the South Island. Continue into Fiordland National Park along the Milford Road, passing mountains, rivers, and native birdlife including the Kea. The guide makes several stops for photos and short walks, including at the Eglinton Valley and Mirror Lakes. Drive through the 1.2 km Homer Tunnel, which connects the region by piercing the Darran Mountain range. Arrive at Milford Sound for a 1 hour 45 minute boutique nature cruise on a small boat. The cruise is led by an onboard guide who points out waterfalls, wildlife such as dolphins, penguins, fur seals, and native birds. A picnic lunch is provided on board. After the cruise, return to Queenstown by van with stops to enjoy the scenery. The whole tour lasts about 13 hours and includes Wi-Fi, tea and coffee, and several scenic photo stops along the way.
