Overview

This 3.5-hour extended backcountry tour covers 28 miles of Monument Valley in an open-air 4x4 vehicle driven by a certified Navajo guide. The route includes all main highlights plus additional stops not found on the regular backcountry tour. The tour begins with views of West and East Mitten buttes, followed by stops at Elephant Butte and John Ford's Point. Guests then visit a Navajo Hogan where they watch a live demonstration of Navajo rug weaving. The tour continues to formations such as Big Hogan Arch and Moccasin Arch, accompanied by a live performance. Further stops include Sun's Eye and nearby Anasazi petroglyphs and ruins, Ear of the Wind Arch, Echo Cave Ruin, the Totem Pole Monument and Sand Springs, Artist's Point and Spearhead Mesa, and finally North Window. Photo opportunities are available at every stop. Pick-up and drop-off are provided at the View Hotel (outside in front down the stairs) and at the KOA campground for overnight guests, with departure times from KOA requiring confirmation by phone. The Tribal Park Admission Fee is not included and must be paid separately at the park. The tour operates on Mountain Standard Time and observes daylight savings.
