Overview

This full-day bus tour from Sarajevo covers key historical and natural sites across Herzegovina, lasting about 10 to 12 hours. The tour begins with a visit to the Old Stone Bridge in Konjic, originally built in 1682 and destroyed in 1945, and then moves to the Buna canals, where the Buna River meets the Neretva River, creating waterfalls and unique water flows. Next is Kravica Waterfall, a 28-meter high cascade on the Trebizat River surrounded by a 120-meter wide natural amphitheater, popular for swimming in summer. The tour continues to the historic urban site of Počitelj, a settlement dating back to the late 14th century and restored to its original appearance. Following Počitelj, the group visits the spring of the Buna River, known for its short length but notable beauty. Then the tour reaches Blagaj Tekija, a nearly 600-year-old Dervish monastery located at the river's source beneath a cliff, featuring Ottoman-era architecture with recent restorations. The itinerary concludes in Mostar with a visit to the Old Bridge area, rebuilt after destruction in the 1990s and representing a blend of Ottoman, Mediterranean, and European influences. Additional stops include the Crooked Bridge, an older stone bridge with a single arch dating before 1558; the Koski-Mehmed Pasha Mosque from 1618, offering views from its minaret; and the Bazar Kujundziluk, Mostar's famous old bazaar, where there is time for shopping before returning to Sarajevo. The tour includes hotel pickup and drop-off, onboard WiFi, air conditioning, bottled water, and admission to Počitelj. Fees for Kravica Waterfalls and Blagaj Tekija entrances are not included. The guide provides historical information throughout the route.

Itinerary

1

Konjic Bridge

The Old Stone Bridge in Konjic was built in 1682 during the Turkish period and connected the banks of the Neretva River for centuries. It was destroyed on March 3rd, 1945 by retreating German forces. The bridge was a rare example of classical Turkish bridge architecture.

2

Bunski Kanal Most

The Buna canals mark the confluence of the Buna River, a left tributary, with the Neretva River. The Buna flows beside the Neretva rather than directly into it, with part of the Buna crossing travertine barriers creating waterfalls before joining the Neretva. The area is not fully developed for tourism but is noted for its natural beauty.

10 min

3

Kravice Falls

Kravica Waterfall is located 3 kilometers downstream from the village of Hrašljani, between Studenci and Zvirici. The Trebizat River forms a 28-meter high waterfall with a natural amphitheater 120 meters wide. It is a popular spot for picnics and swimming during the summer months.

4

The historic urban site of Pocitelj

Počitelj is a unique settlement first mentioned in 1444, with some documents indicating it was built in the late 14th century by order of Bosnian King Tvrtko. The town has been reconstructed to restore its original form and is recognized as a UNESCO heritage site.

6

Blagaj tekija

Blagaj Tekija is a Dervish monastery nearly 600 years old, situated at the base of a cliff beside the Buna River’s source. It consists of a series of buildings dating from the Ottoman Empire era, which have undergone repairs and reconstruction due to time and rock slides. The Tekija has been restored mainly through support from a Turkish travel agency.

60 min

7

Mostar Old Bridge

Mostar developed as an Ottoman frontier town in the 15th and 16th centuries. Its Old Bridge, Stari Most, was designed by architect Sinan but was destroyed in the 1990s conflict. The bridge and many buildings in the Old Town have been rebuilt with UNESCO’s scientific committee involvement. The area combines pre-Ottoman, Ottoman, Mediterranean, and Western European architectural features and symbolizes coexistence among diverse communities.

8

Crooked Bridge (Kriva Cuprija)

The Crooked Bridge on the Radobolja River is a small stone bridge with a single arch located about 150 meters upstream from where the Radobolja meets the Neretva. First mentioned in a 1558 trust fund, it was likely built by Ćejvan (Ćehaja) before that year. It predates the Old Bridge and is said to have been its model.
