This half-day tour lasts about seven hours and starts with hotel pickup and drop-off from authorized locations in Catania. The group travels by vehicle up the slopes of Mount Etna to reach the Sapienza Refuge at 1,986 meters elevation. After a short break, participants walk for about one hour along a natural trail near the Silvestri Craters and recent lava fields formed by the latest volcanic activity. A certified nature guide leads the walk and provides information about the volcanic landscape. The tour includes a fifteen-minute visit inside a lava cave, where helmets, headlamps, and a safety kit are provided. Following the cave visit, the group stops for approximately forty minutes at a local farm on Etna’s slopes to sample Sicilian products such as honey and olive oil. Trekking shoes can be requested in advance and are included if needed. Optional extras, which are not included in the tour price, are available for purchase on site; these include a cableway, a 4x4 bus ride, and a guide to reach an altitude of 2,900 meters.
