Start the tour by taking a ferry from Mumbai's Gateway of India to Elephanta Island, a trip lasting about one hour. Upon arrival, meet the guide and begin exploring the Elephanta Caves for approximately two hours. The tour includes visits to large Hindu caves formerly used for worship before Portuguese rule, smaller Buddhist caves, and the main cave known as the Shiva Cave. Inside the Shiva Cave, see numerous carvings that illustrate different episodes from Lord Shiva's life, including his wedding and his defeat of Andhaka.
