This 3.5-hour day trip in Skagway begins with a guided historic tour of downtown and a scenic nine-mile coastal drive to the Musher’s Camp™ in Dyea. Guests ride a specialized unimog up a mountain road past glacial streams and waterfalls. At the top, a musher introduces a team of 16 Alaskan Huskies, many veterans of the Iditarod race. Visitors take a wheeled summer sled ride down a mile-long zig-zag trail through the Tongass National Rainforest. After the sled run, the unimog returns to an overlook of the Dyea tidal flats where wildlife such as eagles, bears, and seals may be visible depending on the season. The tour continues with a “Kennel Talk,” a session where guides answer common questions about dog sledding and share information about training and racing. Guests also have time to interact with Alaskan husky puppies, which helps socialize them for future sled dog duties. A fire and a gift shop complete the visit in this natural Alaskan setting.
