Overview

This No.1 full-day tour in Chiang Mai lasts about 7 to 8 hours and includes visits to the Chiang Dao Caves and a jungle kayaking trip on the Mae Ping River. The day begins at the base camp, where participants receive a safety briefing, kayak selection, and fitting of life jackets. After preparation, a local guide leads a one-hour walk through the Chiang Dao Cave system. The tour covers side passages with large caverns and the main well-lit chambers containing Buddhist statues and relics related to the Burmese monk who discovered the caves 300 years ago. Ancient shrines and local wildlife such as bats are pointed out during the walk. Following the cave exploration, there is a lunch break at a cave-side restaurant offering vegetarian and vegan options. After lunch, a 10-minute shuttle by air-conditioned van or 4x4 SUV transfers participants to the Mae Ping River for a two-hour kayaking trip through the northern Thai jungle. The route passes through bamboo and temperate forest, with views of local birds including eagles, kingfishers, egrets, and parakeets. Professional guides provide safety instructions and information about the environment. Kayaks provided are top-quality hard-shell single and double models, and life jackets are included. Head lamps are supplied for the cave portion. A support vehicle follows the group to store gear securely. Certified instructors with First Aid and CPR training oversee the tour. Water is provided throughout the day for hydration. The tour concludes with a scenic drive through the Mae Taeng mountains back to Chiang Mai.
