Overview

This small-group day trip from Paris covers key D-Day sites in Normandy over about 12 to 13 hours. The tour includes visits to Omaha Beach, where guests walk on the historic sands and learn about the difficult assault carried out mainly by American soldiers. Next is the Overlord Museum near Omaha Beach, featuring military equipment used in the invasion, including a full-sized Higgins boat and Sherman and Panzer tanks. Entry to the museum is skip-the-line and included in the price. The tour continues to the Batterie Allemande de Longues-Sure-Mer, a German battery with an intact command bunker and three armed bunkers with 150 mm guns. Visitors enter the bunkers to hear the Axis perspective on the morning of D-Day and learn about Rommel’s Atlantic Wall defenses. Afterward, there is a lunch break at a small local restaurant such as l’Hostéière, where guests can order from a menu of fresh regional dishes (lunch not included). The itinerary proceeds to Pointe du Hoc, a strategic German defensive point with massive guns overlooking Omaha and Utah Beaches. Visitors walk around bomb craters and reach the edge of a 110-foot seaside cliff, learning how U.S. Army Rangers scaled it using rocket-powered grappling hooks. The tour then visits the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, where 9,388 white marble graves are arranged in rows. The guide points out Medal of Honor recipients and the Niland brothers, whose story inspired Saving Private Ryan. Before returning to Paris, the group stops at a local Normandy orchard, Ferme de la Sapiniere, to taste Normandy apple juice and hard cider. This tasting is included. Transport throughout the day is by air-conditioned minivan, and the group is limited to 8 people maximum. An expert guide leads the tour. Food and drinks are not included except for the cider tasting, and gratuities are not covered.
