Overview

The North York Moors is a large national park in northern England known for its wide moorland and scenic views. This small-group day tour departs from York and lasts about 8 hours by mini-coach. The tour begins with a visit to Byland Abbey, where passengers spend around 30 minutes exploring the medieval ruins. Next, the coach stops in Helmsley village for a 30-minute break, allowing time to explore the village or pay an optional fee to visit Helmsley Castle ruins. After Helmsley, the tour continues with a 4-hour scenic drive through the North York Moors National Park, offering wide views of the moorland. Then there is a 2-hour stop in the coastal town of Whitby. Here, visitors have free time to walk the streets, enjoy the town’s atmosphere, and try the famous fish and chips. An optional visit to Whitby Abbey is available during this stop. The tour ends back in York, arriving in the early evening. The tour includes round-trip transport from York in a mini-coach that holds up to 16 passengers, plus English commentary from the driver-guide. Food, drinks, entrance fees, and gratuities are not included. There is minimal walking involved and toilet stops are made along the route. A lunch break is scheduled where participants can buy food. Note that the vehicles are not wheelchair accessible and luggage can be stored at York train station. Some changes to the itinerary occur during railway repairs or special events at North Yorkshire Moors Railway, with alternate train rides or entrance to Whitby Abbey replacing usual stops.
