Overview

This small-group tour in Reykjavik lasts between three and five hours, depending on how easily clear skies can be found for viewing. Guests are picked up and dropped off at their accommodations in central Reykjavik. The group travels in a modified super jeep to locations outside the city where light pollution is minimal and the chances of seeing the Northern Lights are higher. On the way out, the group may stop briefly at Perlan, a Northern Lights exhibition center and viewpoint, to check cloud conditions. While waiting for the aurora to appear, the guide uses a powerful telescope to show details of planets and deep space objects visible in the night sky, providing a stargazing experience. The tour is led by local guides experienced with Icelandic weather and includes a maximum of 14 people, maintaining a guide-to-guest ratio of 1 to 10. Hot chocolate and Icelandic pastries are served during the tour. Photos of guests under the Northern Lights are taken at no extra cost. Pickup times are between 9 and 9:30 pm from September 1 to April 15. The operator makes a go/no-go decision by 6:30 pm daily based on weather and notifies guests through the booking platform. If the Northern Lights are not seen, guests can rebook the tour free of charge within two years, subject to availability. Warm, windproof clothing is recommended as the group spends extended time outside, but passengers can return to the vehicle to warm up as needed.
