This Northern Lights tour lasts about 4 hours and takes place in a specially equipped superjeep designed for Iceland’s rugged terrain. The tour departs from Reykjavik and heads out of the city to darker areas to reduce light pollution and improve chances of seeing the Aurora Borealis. The vehicles used are Land Rover Defenders and 6-door Ford Excursions, fitted with large 40- or 46-inch wheels, fold-down steps for easy access, leather seats, air-conditioning, WiFi, GPS, and safety equipment including a first-aid kit. Each superjeep carries up to six passengers and is driven by an experienced guide who navigates Iceland’s wilderness and roads. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included, along with national park fees, local taxes, and free photos from the tour. Food, drinks, and gratuities are not included. The tour is available all year round, mainly from autumn to spring when the northern lights are visible, weather permitting. If the lights are not seen or the tour is canceled due to weather, guests can rebook without extra charge or receive a refund if no tour was completed.
