This walking tour covers more than 40 square blocks of Old Louisville, one of the largest historic districts in the United States. The tour lasts between 100 minutes and 2 hours and begins at the northern edge of the neighborhood near Fourth Street, an area where panhandlers and homeless people are often present. A certified guide leads the group along Ormsby Avenue and Park Avenue, passing the Floral Terrace cottages and other Victorian homes. The tour includes a stop at the Witches' Tree, a twisted tree with local legends and offerings left by visitors. The group then stops outside the Conrad-Caldwell House Museum, also known as Conrad's Castle; tours inside the mansion can be arranged separately for a fee. Next, the walk reaches Millionaires Row, where the Bernheim Mansion stands out with its triple Roman-arched porch and green men decorations. The route continues past the Filson Historical Society, located in the 1905 Ferguson Mansion, a Beaux Arts building once considered Louisville’s grandest home; visits inside the Filson can be arranged separately. The final stop is Central Park, a 14-acre green space designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, known for hosting the nation’s oldest free outdoor Shakespeare event each summer. The tour requires participants to be able to walk continuously for 90 minutes without bathroom breaks and is not recommended for those with mobility issues.
