Overview

This 5.5-hour guided Oslo Discovery Tour begins with a coach drive past several key city landmarks, including Oslo City Hall where the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony takes place, the National Theatre, the Parliament building from 1866, Akershus Castle and Fortress built in 1299, the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet inaugurated in 2008, the Royal Palace, and the Norwegian Nobel Institute. The tour then stops at Holmenkollen Hill for a 30-minute visit to view the ski jump from outside and, weather permitting, to enjoy panoramic views of the city and fjord. Next, there is a 45-minute guided walking tour through Vigeland Sculpture Park, which features the largest collection of sculptures by a single artist, Gustav Vigeland. The tour continues to Bygdøy Peninsula, known as the museums' island, where there is a 60-minute visit to the Fram Museum to see the 19th-century polar ship Fram, the strongest wooden ship ever built. Following this, guests visit the Norwegian Folk Museum, also called the Open-Air Museum, for about 60 minutes to see traditional Norwegian buildings, including the Gol Stave Church. On Mondays in April and October, or in bad weather, the Folk Museum visit is replaced by a visit to the Kon-Tiki Museum. The tour concludes with a drive through Aker Brygge and western Oslo to view the architecture of this lively area. Included in the tour are entrance tickets to the Fram Museum and one of the two museums on Bygdøy, the guided walking tour of Vigeland Park, and coach transport with a certified English-speaking guide. Hotel pickup, meals, and gratuities are not included. The tour involves moderate walking with some steps and uneven terrain and operates in all weather conditions.
