Overview

Parma is known for its traditional Parmigiano Reggiano cheese and Prosciutto di Parma ham. This food tour lasts about four to five hours and includes private transportation with air conditioning. The tour starts with a scenic drive from Parma to a traditional Parmigiano Reggiano dairy. There, visitors watch cheese makers lift the cheese curds from the milk vats and then visit the seasoning rooms to see the final aging process. A tasting of different aged Parmigiano Reggiano cheeses follows. Next, the tour continues with a short drive to the hills of Langhirano, where the Prosciutto di Parma ham is produced. Visitors enter the seasoning rooms at environmental temperature, where the scent of curing ham is strong. The guide explains the process called “spillatura,” where only the finest hams pass the inspection and receive the “Crown of Parma” branding. The visit ends with a tasting of Parma ham paired with a glass of Malvasia, a local sparkling white wine. After the tastings, the tour returns to Parma by private vehicle. Snacks are included during the tour. Guests travel through the countryside in air-conditioned comfort, with stops for the cheese and ham factory visits and tastings.
