Overview

This full-day bus trip lasts about nine and a half hours and starts with a stop at Lancelin Sand Dunes, where there is a chance to try sandboarding and take photos of the large white dunes. Before this, there is a break at a bakery for restroom use and snacks if needed. Next, the tour visits either Nilgen Lookout or Hangover Bay depending on weather and group size. Nilgen Lookout is a nature reserve where seasonal wildflowers can be seen. Hangover Bay is a small, secluded bay historically used by local Aboriginal tribes and features plants used for fishing nets, bush tucker, and medicine. The main stop is The Pinnacles Desert, where guests watch the sunset while enjoying an Australian barbecue dinner with wine. After dinner, the tour continues with stargazing using telescopes and astro binoculars, guided by a local expert. The guide shares Dreamtime stories about the night sky from the perspective of Australian Aboriginal astronomy. The tour also includes instruction on how to photograph the night sky using a smartphone. On the return journey, time permitting, there may be a brief stop at Lancelin beach near the fishermen’s jetty to view the Indian Ocean and walk along the shore. Hotel pickup and drop-off are provided within Perth’s central business district. The tour includes national park fees, sandboarding, sightseeing, a beach walk, dinner, live commentary, child restraints for ages 1 to 7, and air conditioning on the bus. Lunch or afternoon tea is not included, so eating beforehand or bringing food is recommended. Weather and conditions may affect the itinerary and visibility of the night sky.
