Overview

Playa del Carmen is home to several unique cenotes, natural freshwater sinkholes formed by collapsed limestone. This cycling tour lasts about four hours and visits three distinct cenotes near the community of Chemuyil, close to Tulum City. Participants ride bicycles through the jungle, guided by locals who were born and raised in the area. The tour begins with preparation in Chemuyil before cycling to the cenotes, which are protected and not frequented by tourists. Each cenote offers a different setting: one is a cave with a striking landscape facing the jungle, another is a semi-open cenote where sunlight reflects on the water, and the final stop is an open cenote where guests can jump and plunge into the water. The guide explains the local project called Bejil-Ha, which started over eight years ago to protect these cenotes. The tour includes bottled water, use of snorkeling equipment, seasonal fruits, tea and coffee, lockers, bicycle rental, medical expense insurance, and the guidance of a local expert. Lunch, private transportation, underwater photos, and souvenirs are not included.

Chemuyil and Three Cenotes

The tour begins in Chemuyil, near Tulum City, where participants prepare for the cycling trip. A local guide leads the group by bicycle through the jungle to visit three protected cenotes used by the community. Each cenote is distinct: one is a cave facing the jungle, another a semi-open pool with sunlight filtering through, and the last an open cenote suitable for jumping into the water. The guide shares information about the Bejil-Ha project, which started more than eight years ago to protect these natural sites.
