Overview

This full-day tour from San Juan lasts about nine to ten hours and includes visits to three locations on Puerto Rico's north coast. The first stop is Cueva Ventana, reached by a hike along a clear trail through a subtropical forest with limestone formations. Visitors spend approximately two hours inside this large cave system with a private guide who explains its geological features, ecosystem, and history. Afterward, the group travels to Cueva Del Indio, also known as the Indian Cave, where they hike along the beach and sandstone cliffs for about two hours. This area contains numerous Taino petroglyphs and provides panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. Guides offer information about Taino culture and assist guests in navigating the uneven surfaces inside the cave. The final destination is Rio Tanama, where participants trek about fifteen minutes through water and rock formations in a karst canyon to reach two waterfalls. At the waterfalls, guests can swim, go under the falls, or jump from cliffs; life jackets are provided for safety. If weather conditions make swimming unsafe, the group visits a nearby natural spring instead. The tour includes helmets, head lamps, life jackets, entry to Cueva Ventana park, and air-conditioned transportation. Lunch is not included, but there is a stop at a local restaurant serving Puerto Rican food. Close-toed shoes such as sneakers or Tevas are required for the cave visits. Moderate physical activity and basic swimming skills are necessary for this tour.
