by Auckland Sea Kayaks
This full-day tour lasts about 6 and a half hours and begins with a safety briefing and paddling instruction before you kayak across Auckland’s Waitemata Harbour, known as 'sparkling waters.' During the crossing, you may spot wildlife including Little Blue Penguins and Cooks Petrels. Upon reaching Rangitoto Island, the largest and youngest volcano in the Auckland region, you will start a leisurely one-hour walk to its summit. Along the trail, you will see baked scoria rocks and over 200 native trees and flowering plants growing among pohutukawa trees. The summit provides a 360-degree view of the Auckland area. After descending, you will return to the water’s edge where a BBQ lunch is served. The tour uses top-quality sea kayak equipment and is run in small groups. Experienced guides lead the trip, offering knowledge about local weather, wildlife, and the island’s history. This tour is suitable for people with little or no kayaking experience. Tea and coffee are included during the outing.
