The route continues along the Via Appia Antica, known as Regina Viarum, built from the 4th century BC to link Rome with southern Italy. Participants will learn about the road’s origins and see the remains of Roman structures along the way. Stops include the Parco della Caffarella, one of the largest green areas in Europe, and the Ninfeo di Egeria, associated with the legend of the nymph Egeria and King Numa Pompilius. The tour also visits the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella and the Castrum Caetani, a medieval fortress incorporating the tomb. The longer 5-hour option adds a guided visit to the Catacombs of San Callisto, one of Rome’s largest underground cemeteries with nearly 20 kilometers of corridors, and a lunch featuring traditional Roman dishes at a restaurant in Parco degli Acquedotti. After lunch, riders return to the park to continue along the aqueduct remains, including some still functioning, before stopping at the Circus of Maxentius and the Baths of Caracalla.
