Overview

This three-hour walking tour in Rome begins at the Vatican Museums, where visitors spend about one hour exploring the large collection of art and historical objects assembled by the Popes over many centuries. The tour includes a visit to the Museo Pio Clementino, the largest section of the Vatican Museums, which features important sculptures such as the Laocoön and the Belvedere Apollo. Next, the group moves to the Pigna courtyard to see the bronze sculpture Sphere within a Sphere by Arnaldo Pomodoro. The tour continues through the Gallery of Maps, which displays 40 large frescoed maps of Italian regions and cities, followed by visits to the Candelabra Gallery and the Gallery of Tapestries. After the museum galleries, the tour enters the Sistine Chapel for about 20 minutes to view Michelangelo's frescoes. The final indoor stop is St. Peter's Basilica, where visitors spend 30 minutes seeing Michelangelo's Pietà and Bernini's St. Peter's Baldachin. The tour ends in St. Peter's Square, which is surrounded by Bernini's double Colonnade and dominated by Michelangelo's large dome. Skip-the-line tickets for the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter's Basilica are included, along with official Vatican headsets, a Sistine Chapel illustrated factsheet, free Wi-Fi, and a device charging station at the meeting point. Hotel pickup and drop-off are not included. Visitors must not bring metal objects, large bags, or animals except assistance dogs. Proper dress is required; shorts, miniskirts, and uncovered shoulders are not allowed. The tour is not suitable for guests using wheelchairs or with impaired mobility. Identification may be required for security reasons. If St. Peter's Basilica is closed or inaccessible during the tour, the guide will include the Raphael's Rooms or provide an explanation of the Basilica from outside. The Basilica is not included on Wednesday mornings due to the Papal Audience but is included in July, August, and when the audience is held indoors. No refunds are given for late arrivals who miss the tour.
